Anyone been on Holiday in this area? It's our third year, and have been to La Rochelle, Ile de Re etc, but DS is now 3 and want to do some days that are more entertaining for him.

Planning on doing the Zoo de la Palmyre, looks really good. I've searched old threads and someone said the cafe was crap and expensive, but the thread was from 2007, so has anyone been more recently?

Any ideas for anywhere else? I live in Jersey, so not really fussed about beaches, but gardens, kiddy theme parks etc would be great. TIA

Hi, where abouts are you staying?

I can recommend a couple of things. St Savinien is a small town that has a 'port minature'. It is a boating lake where you can hire small boats. I cannot find a website for it, but if you google it you will find info on other websites. The boats are all different. My boys loved it there.

St Jean d'Angely has an indoor swimming pool with a flume, good on a wet day (which hopefully you wont get!!)

We are going in August for 2 wks, cannot wait. We love it there. Have a good holiday.

We've been having nothing but wet days so far! But it's still quite warm, and the gite we are in has a pool. We are about 20mins up from St Jean d'Angely. We tried to go to the boating lake last year, but it's only open one day a week at this time of year (learned the hard way last time, when we ended up with a very disappointed DS1), but will try again if we can find out what day it's open.

We love it here too, it's our third year, though the first year we've had rubbish weather, but plenty to do if the rain holds off, and last year was too hot for me (though I was 5 months pregnant, which didn't help)

Thanks for the suggestion

If it is only open one day it will almost definately be Wednesday afternoon as there is no school.

I was thinking Wednesday, DH is over next week (only got 1 week off work) so will save it for then, as he is the boat fan

Was going to second the zoo, although its a few years since we visited. One thing which stuck in my mind was the horrendous traffic jams in the town around zoo opening/ closing times.
Have you visited the aquarium in la rochelle? I thought it was very good.

IDDI we went to the aquarium last year, really enjoyed it. Went to a place called Zoodyssee today, was excellent, more wildlife reserve than zoo, DS1's favourite animal was a tadpole, despite there being many more exciting things! He got a cuddly wolf at the shop, and has named him Owl.
