DCs are keen to go to Rome this summer. We have been before pre DCs and know it will be hot. We will go to Pompeii but where else could we go outside the hot dusty city? We plan to get budget flights to Rome and go to Pompeii and elsewhere on the train. We can go for aout 10 days.

We went to Lago di Trasimeno. Loads fo sites in easy reach and breeze from the lake. Not too mention some great restaurants.

Sabaudia, San Felice Circeo and the Circeo National Park.

With a short train ride you can get to the beach in Ostia, it will be crowded with Romans (avoid the weekend) but a beach is a beach and you will be having an authentic Roman experience Wink. You could combine it with a visit to the ruins at Ostia Antica, very large and quite impressive.

Latina is lovely for beaches not far from Rome. We went to Rome at Easter and stayed in the hills above Tivoli which was lovely and Frascati is also nice if you don't fancy beaches.
