Where can we go this year....HELP!! please

Would anyone have any ideas for anywhere "different" to go on holiday this summer, please.
Basically, we need to go during school hols (I know I'm leaving it late!) we've done all the usual places in Europe on beach hols (mix of hotels and villas) over the years and find that they are all beginning to merge into one - same type of hotels, food, beaches etc - nothing seems to stand out anymore .
So, wondering if there is somewhere we haven't thought/heard about. We would like a mixture of beach and sightseeing, but just somewhere that's just bit less "sameish".
DH mentioned Croatia or Montenegro, but we really don't know anything about these countries.
Pleeeese if you have any ideas post them

Corsica
Sardinia

Agree Croatia/Montenegro sound fab but know nothing about them.

Thanks, for the quick reply Popp I hadn't thought of Corsia or Sardinia. Have you been to either? If so, are there any resorts/areas that you can recommend, please. Or in Malta, as well

No, sorry, not Corsica or Sardinia, they are on my wish lists. Just read so many lovely reviews.

We went to Malta but years ago Pre-DCs.

Gozo looked lovely then, if you want to get-away-from-it-all, but you are a short-ish oat ride from the main hub Valletta for a bit of sightseeing.

I know this may sound a bit wimpish, but, would Jordan still be OK to go out with all the problems in Syria?

Austrian Alps, or Slovenia.............or Corsica, or Sicily.

Thanks Ori I hadn't even thought to slovenia. I'm going to have a good look at Corsica as well. Would Sicily be expensive once you're there do you think?

Austrian Alps - won't get the beach but you can sunbathe by the lakes (and swim in them).

Took DH and DD there a couple of years ago for a change and they both reckon it is one of the best holidays they have ever been on.

A walk across the mountains ending with Apple Strudel and icecream followed by an afternoon sunbathing by the lake, then going out on a boat before a fantastic meal with great wine and beer. Then onto the weekly festival to finish the evening.

Yes, I have heard Slovenia is lovely - recommended to me a lot over the past couple of years. I'm hoping to go there soon.
