I need help recommending a hotel in London to my brother and his wife. They will be coming from America in September and will be bringing their son with them, who will be nine months. They will staying for a week. They want to spend half their time sight seeing and the other half visiting with us. We live in Clapham, btw. Thanks in advance.

no personal recommendations sorry but www.tripadvisor.com/ is useful for reviews

You can find some nice options on www.vrbo.com. Not really hotels, more private flats to rent, but better for travel with kids.

Going to spend a couple of nights in a holidayin express thingy tomorrow so will let you know! It's £60 for 2 nights inc breakfast with 2 kids in our room.

Need more details please. What part of London do they want to stay in? Close to you, more central, elsewhere? Do they need/want a room with any kitchen facilities? Do they need/want hotel amenities (concierge, gym, restaurant, etc), or is price/location more important? Rough budget?

They'd like to stay in central London. The room should have a coffee maker since they both are coffee drinkers, but other than that, they don't need kitchen facilities. They would like concierge and a restaurant. They told me that they would like to spend less than $300 a night, which I figure to be roughly less than £150 a night.

last minute, fabulous discounts on central london hotels

Well, it's not the most salubrious address, but you might want to try the address below (some day I will learn links...

It is very central, and they can trot right into Victoria Station and straight to Clapham to see you via train. Or, they are walking distance to many things. Also, they can catch buses or tubes to most anywhere in the city. They'll have to be extra vigilant about pick pockets, etc, but guess that's a fact of life in central London, or any large city. Not sure about the price though...

Any good?

Here's the hotel's own website..

JRMum you may think I'm mad, but have you considered the Windmill on Clapham Common? The rooms are actually quite nice, not too noisy, and it would be close to you. My Mum and Dad stayed there a couple of times when we lived in Balham. You could go and have a look at the rooms if you wanted.....
