Leeds or Harrogate for a day?

Hi, I've to kill a day on my own on bank holiday Monday in June when I fly over to collect my DD. I'm flying in and out of Leeds Bradford and arrive at 9 in the morning and leave again at 7pm.

I've never been to either Leeds or Harrogate. Any thoughts on which might be the nicest town to spend a day in and also any tips for things to do - museums, galleries, shopping, nice place for lunch?

Thanks.

Harrogate! (but I'm biased as it's my hometown)

Depends what you like doing

With a day to kill in Harrogate I'd prob do the following:

Breakfast at Betty's
Morning session at Turkish Baths (not sure about bank hol openings though)
Visit the galleries near the Baths (Mercer, Castle, and one on the cobbly street I can't remember the name)
Window shopping on Parliament Street, Montpellier Mews, James Street
Lunch at Deanos (but shut Mondays I think) so maybe Banyan
Plod round Valley Gardens with an ice cream in the afternoon

There'll be loads of jubilee themed stuff going on too I would imagine

Leeds-Harrogate is SO dull.

Bettys is incredibly overpriced and not worth queuing for.

no queue at breakfast time though Grin

Leeds has:
an art gallery
the Henry Moore institute
loads of fine architecture - the Victoria Arcade, the corn Exchange, the market are just a few examples
Excellent shopping
Loads of places to eat (Yo sushi in Harvey Nicks is my favourite)
An excellent oriental supermarket

OK I'm biased, but I used to live in Leeds and always jump at the opportunity to go back.

yes corn exchange in Leeds is fab - and glad to see it is filling up with little shops again after being quite empty and sad looking for ages

Thanks all.

Hard to choose!
