Ile de Ré! Absolutely perfect.

Il de Ré is indeed lovely. My advice would be to go the last week in June or the last week in August. Between the 2 it is really really busy.

For kids under 4 I find a place with a private pool away from the beach with a couple of beach days inbetween more relaxing though. I never relax on a beach with little ones.

I would recommend Brittany - beautiful beaches, not too far to travel (especially with Brittany ferries) and not too hot for young children. We've been several times with our children - they love the beaches. Best place we stayed was a holiday home in a quaint holiday resort and fishing port called Erquy. Found it through Owners Direct website. Was an easy walking distance to two beaches and to the resort centre. Well equipped with children's stuff too and had UK TV. Can find a direct link if you'd like one.

Thanks so much! I will check out il de re. We had actually considered Brittany, but we wondered if the weather might be a bit unpredictable in June? Will check out tots to travel. I am sure we have friends that have used owners direct and recommend.

It was la Roche Bernard in Brittany that we had looked in to....

Corriewatcher, I'd love that link. Is it any good for teens? We have a toddler and a 14yo.
