For our summer hols we re hoping to land in Calais then take a leisurely road trip down the Atlantic coast side of France. Does anyone have any suggestions for 'must do' places to stop and visit? 2 dc age 13 and 11.

Noirmoutier is pretty, La Rochelle and I'Le D'Oleron also worth a stop. Sure you will get plenty more suggestions.

Honfleur is lovely, on the north coast about 3 hours from Calais.
Ile de Re close to La Rochelle.

Normandy, WWII sites

Also Bayeux.

There's a theme park down the atlantic coast a bit - www.futuroscope.com - it's near Poitiers so a bit inland but is meant to be very good.

Normandy, Brittany are both lovely.

If you have never been, Disneyland is 3 hrs drive from Calais!
Buy cheaper park tickets on French websites. Sometimes they offer a second day free.

Not sure she wants to go to Disneyland (East) if heading for the West coast?

I've always wanted to go to Ile de Re.

I had a lot of fun in Biarritz once.

Honfleur is lovely and all along the Deauville/Trouville coast - much more so than i expected tbh

We went to the Ile de Re but it was rammed in July, I would avoid then.

Carcassone is also lovely and down towards the Pyrenees.

Standing stones near Carnac. I'm another who would second Bayeux. Josselin has a beautiful riverside castle.

If you are heading La Rochelle way then stop in the Vendee and go to the Puy du Fou - amazing theme park. It is a great day out.

Beaches round La Tranche sur Mer are lovely.
