went to mauritius 2 yrs ago, pre-children though!! stayed at le touessrok, it had just reopened after millions spent on it. fantastic place, fantastic food, waiter service on beach etc; would go back if could afford it, company paid last time!

btw, webiste is www.touessrok.com. i di recall they have a kids club etc. best of all, the resort has its own private island you catch a five minute boat to from the main resort; it truly is a magical place.

Mauritus sounds like a lovely idea. We took our first long haul in December with two children - aged 2.5 years & 11 months. Been loads of times with just the one. We found two a lot harder work (as you would expect). Both were great on the plane and DS1 settled into holiday life quickly - but DS2 was quite clingy to start with. Didn't helping the sunbathing much - having a baby clinging to you like a monkey.

Anyway,if you have not yet booked your flights just want to warn you about Air France - they are really bad at losing luggage. Not a prospect I would want to face - losing the babies stuff!!

You lucky thing vicky!!!
Went to Mauritius on honeymoon and LOVED it! One thing to be aware of (well 2 actually)
In June, the weather isn't always that great - it was warm while we were there, but only properly sunny about half the time
The sun sets at about 5 / 5.30pm which I wasn't aware of until we arrived.
Having said that, the people are lovely and your 2 yr old will enjoy paddling in the lovely warm see, and be fascinated with the fish!
I think babygoes2.com has a section on Mauritius, so I'd check there if I was you.

markwarner is now in Mauritius, could be helpful for childcare!

The residence is fantastic - a little more laid back than Touessrok IMO. Nannies there are fantastic and the butlers will do absolutely anything to help - vital if you have a baby!

There are some biggish supermarkets on the island and taxis will take you there from the hotel. You can stock up there much more cheaply than in the hotel. However the Residence did have everything you might need on that front and would purree stuff for you if you wanted too.
We love Mauritius it just works so well with children!

Loads of Mauritius hotels have kids' clubs and childcare and they're really good at it. Easy to stock up on baby stuff at local supermarkets. Imafariy is right though - we went last July and had lots of cloudy days and 2 or 3 rainy ones which is quite disappointing when you've paid all that money. Hotel recommendations would depend on your budget - they're all pretty good but some are fabulous.

We stayed at the Maritime - really lovely - on the north coast. Do take jelly shoes for your two-year-old. The sea and beaches are great for paddling but you must protect your feet from rogue sea-urchin spikes that may have broken off. Sound like a v. paranoid mum, I know, but you do need to protect your feet in the water. You luck things - best holiday we ever had was there...
