Thinking about a holiday in September nd wondering if Greece leaving euro would work out in holiday maker's favour or not? I have zero understanding of economics but remember when Greece used to be dead cheap when it was drachma. Selfish I know but need a cheap hol! Anyone make Any sense of whats going on? Should I hold out for a cheap last minute deal to Greece later in year or is it unlikely to get any cheaper??? Thanks in advance oh wise newsletters.

If Greece does go back to the drachma, it will devalue making everything there cheaper for those with foreign currency. It is likely to be very disruptive though. If you want a cheap holiday you should try Turkey, Egypt, Morocco or Tunisia. The pound is quite strong against the Turkish currency and the others are still recovering from the Arab Spring.

just seen my auto correct has turned 'mumsnetters' to 'newsletters'... whoops. Anyway - thanks for the reply. i might have a look at Turkey. Just really fancy going back to greece as I haven't been for years and love it there. Was wondering if the price of package holidays is likely to drop, maybe people might be put off going? Turkey might be a nice ption anyway especially as we haven't been there. Any suggestions? we will have a 3yo in tow...

Greece is very unstable at the moment and I would imagine in the larger towns and cities there will be civil unrest if they were to leave the Euro. On the islands the unrest may not be so stark but there may be food shortages, disruptions to power, water etc. I would wait for a year to see what will happen.

If you wait to book nearer the time, it'll be less of a gamble.
And by then there might also be cheap holidays to Italy, Spain and Portugal. :-)

We have booked to go to Kos in July. It's an all inclusive resort but I am a tiny bit worried, as it has cost us an arm and a leg.

shit i didn't even think about all the other fallout. hmm... wait and see i think. anyone know the best pace to get last minute deals from?

WW - are you worried?

FWIW we booked a fabulous holiday with James Villas at 3 weeks notice having planned to go to Morrocco but the Arab spring, some shootings in Marrakech happened, we pulled out (booked but not paid) and went to Gran Canaria instead.
