Adults only trip to Northern Spain - good choice? Anyone got an idea which has the best mix of culture, relaxation, great food?

Great choice. Bilbao is fab, you must visit the Guggenheim and it has a lovely old town. Spent only 2 days in Santander and was not that impressed but it may have been my mood or just not finding the good stuff!

i would choose san sebastian for good mix of beach and food and vibe.. Bilbao is great but is fundamentally an industrial town with a groovy art gallery, Santander a cross between the two.. if you have a car keep going to San Vicente de Barquera for something small and special.

I like San Sebastian, not done the ferry there but we've often popped across the border for a day trip.

I'd like to do one of the mini cruises to Denmark. Out of season they have some great deal.

For some reason I thought a ferry went to San Sebatian, doh!

I was speaking to my Mum earlier as we were thinning of getting a ferry to Spain next year then work our way back to Calais over 3 weeks. She likes Santander and the local area, said it was compact.
