Eating out in Edinburgh

DH is taking me shopping for the day in Edinburgh- birthday treat - he will leave me to it and then we will have lunch together.

First day out together like this for ages.....

Does anyone have any recommendations for good eateries in the centre. As this is a special treat I would like to avoid the 'easy' options like Browns etc (although that is nice)

THanks!!

I love eating in Hendersons - have only eaten in their cafeteria basement place but they do have a wine bary place on street level as well. Its organic/vegetarian (and I am not a vegetarian)and absolutely scrummy but dont know if thats sepcial enough for you or your kind of thing?

Centotre in George St- really good offshoot of Valvona and Crolla

Valvona and Crolla, fantastic Italian deli with cafe, the also have a place opposite Harvey Nics called Vin Caffe, this also has a restaurant upstairs. Lovely!! We went there a couple of weeks ago. Also the restaurant in Harvey Nics is great too!

I was going to say Centotre aswell but I thought it was looking strangely scruffy last time I was there, 2 out of the 3 taps in the ladies loo were broken, however this is not a reflection on the food!

Looked great to me last month, but horses for courses I suppose- I thought HK was not particularly good food

Thanks for the speedy (and hunger inducing ) replies.

I was taken to HEndersons when I was about 10 by a friend's parents and it remains for me (as a girl from the sticks) the height of urban sophistication. I can still remeber the delcious cauiflower cheese. And I didn't know it waw still there!

Also Centrote sounds fab. Already I am spoilt for choice..........
