Help - Majorca virgin here - which resort?

Hi - hoping to go to Majorca for first time - me, dh, DS (8yrs) and DD (4 yrs).

The East coast has been recommended but I've no idea where to go. Would like a well situated family friendly resort with a beautiful beach with shallow water and interesting town - both within walking distance. Would like to do B & B in a hotel/apartment with pool - ideally 4 star.

Any recommendations?

I would recommend Puerto Pollensa.. v popular with mumsnetters.

So would I recommend Puerto Pollensa. Look at the website pollensa.com for information about the resort, accommodation, eating out, things to do etc. It is nice and flat for walking about, lovely beach, very family friendly.

Cala Bona, Cala Millor. Long beach and long stretch of car free promenade.
Sa coma beach is lovely.

puerto pollensa and cala d'or both fab!

HandMadeTail · 15/05/2012 19:35

Again, Puerto Pollenca is lovely. You can get an apartment on "the pine walk" which typically won't have any kind of pool, but will be about 20m, if that from the water.

There are plenty of restaurants, and some lovely walking to be done if the weather is not all that. If you have a car, go to Formentor, and Soller. You can get a tram from Soller to the seaside, or a cute little train to Palma, it's self. Palma is well worth a visit for a day trip.

I haven't been to Majorca for some time, and I'm feeling jealous just typing this!

Another cala dor. It is great for families and beautiful beaches/coves Smile

We're going to puerto pollensa, which I keep getting told is wonderful (whether you have kids or not). Stay near the Pine Walk, as pp said. :)

Sa Coma is a shithole, it has a lovely beach but the restaurants are mostly the curry and chips variety.

Cala Bona is very quiet with lovely restaurants but not a very good beach.

Cala Dor is my fave, great restaurants, some nice shops, great little beaches, nice marina.

Agree that Cala D'Or or Puerto Pollensa are both lovely

landofsoapandglory · 16/05/2012 19:00

I agree with Cala D'Or, I love it there.

I'm so glad moschops thinks that Sa Coma is a shithole, I thought I was going to be a lone voice in saying that!

clam · 20/05/2012 22:45

Another vote for Puerto Pollensa.

makemineapinot · 04/06/2012 19:27

Ooh I'm glad you're rating cala D'Or as we're off here in a couple of weeks Smile can't wait!! Thought you'd like it too Zozzle and it got great reviews on trip advisor x

Astr0naut · 06/06/2012 13:21

Oh no! we're off to Sa Coma next week. Picked it because it seemed quiet. I'd steeled myself for it to be very British and not like our usual (two kids under 3 calls for a very different kind of holiday), but not horrible. Sad

newmumma · 19/06/2012 20:37

sorry but sa coma worst holiday I have ever been on, lots of "entertainment", british food and when I asked for my calamari y frittas the waiter commented that I was the first person he had ever known order from him in spanish. enough said. blurgh.... hope you managed to find some nicer bits than we did and that you had a nice time. At least the weather would have been better than in this shithole (south london... blurgh!!)

kentgirl73 · 19/06/2012 20:46

We went to cala D'Or 2010 with children 8 and 4 loved it, lovely marina, small beaches, lovely self catering apartments, last year went to santa ponsa, again beautiful, restaurants typical tourists but great for children, beach is lovely! wish we were going away this year :(

MyMamaToldMe · 25/06/2012 15:24

I can second Club Martha's resort. We have been twice and loved it.

Erebus · 29/06/2012 14:53

Well, thank the lord I booked a villa near Puerto Pollensa, then!

My friend did a 'cheapy' (all relative, I know!) to Cala Millor 4 odd years ago and said it ticked the boxes well enough, not all Watney's Red Barrel and chips etc, and she's a bigger snob than me! Grin
