Recommendations for a cheap camping/caravan site in France or Spain

Hi I have been looking online and after years of not holidaying and now having 2 DC 6 and 4 am thinking longingly about a summer holiday.
They seem to have gone up tremendously since I last went on one Shock
Anyway I am looking to go from Plymouth to France or Spain and maybe a caravan site thats lovely for children and not too far away from the port. The Ferry crossing alone is a shocking price £1000ish alone Shock Are there any websites that do cheap deals from Plymouth as they mostly seem to be from the East (Dover/Portsmouth) and we are in the SW and I cannot seem to find anything.
Can anyone give me some pointers please?
Thank you

Do you have your own tent/caravan? If so and if you can go outside peak season (i.e. not between early July and mid Aug), then look at Camping Cheques. They do deals with Brittanny Ferries - so you get a cheaper crossing and cheaper campsite rates. I've just test quoted it and it came to £570 a car crossing & 14 camping cheques - Plymouth Roscoff daytime crossings on 17/8/12 returning 01/9/2012. Even if you don't have your own kit and so will be hiring a static, you could book it and sell on the camping cheques. They cost £13.75 each normally so you could sell them on at, say, £10 each (I'd be interested in buying) and make at least £140 back, giving you your crossing at £430. I couldn't see an availability for the Plymouth Santander route but the same principle would apply. hope that helps.
