Hi there, Just wondering if anyone has been to this resort in Crete? Its the first time we're taking the DDs abroad (4yrs and 11months) and I'd love to pick the brains of someone who's been....anyone?? x

I have been to Elounda quite a few times. It's a lovely little resort. A lot of people stay there but it's not brash or rowdy. Some nice restaurants and tavernas. It is quite a way from the airport though.

OOh, thanks KenDDD How old were your DC's when you went? Did you use the creche at all?

We were only there before DD but we will definitely take her at some point!

We've been to Elounda. It's a lovely little fishing village with the main square situated next to the port where all the fishing boats are docked. There is a lot of choice when it comes to restaurants and there are quite a few bars too. On the whole it was pretty relaxed and not rowdy at all. There is a lovely promenade to walk along and when we were there in 2007 there was a local seal in the bay who would kind of stalk you as you walked along the promenade into Elounda! Funny seeing his/her head bobbing out of the water every now and then as we walked into the resort.

It is quite a long flight though and Elounda is quite a distance from the airport (we just had the standard coach transfer). We really liked it but we're going for Menorca this year since it's our first holiday abroad with 2 kids (4 and 7 months) and we had to visit family in Australia when DS1 was 18 months so have done long haul and survived so should be braver!

All the best and enjoy Elounda. The sunsets are gorgeous and the view over the bay is just beautiful. We had a couple of spectacular thunder/lightening storms too where it rained straight down with lightning streaking across the sky then 10 minutes later the sun was back out in the blue sky and the boats were back on to and fro to Spinalonga! Crete is beautiful.

I absolutely love Crete! There is a really long and helpful review of Porto Elounda here - plus I notice they have a special offer on now too. You get a nice breeze in Crete which takes the edge off the heat and it is so beautiful. Lucky you! :)

Thanks doowpro We've actually booked it through this company (they're great) will def use them again! Looking forward to escaping this miserable weather here! Tell me, can you drink the tap water in Crete? Confused

Elounda is lovely and Spinalonga is brilliant if you can fit it in. Best day out of the week was on Spinalonga. I loved the way you could climb all over the crumbling buildings and rock, risking life and limb but they had a sign saying no smoking.
