It's my boyfriends birthday this weekend and we're planning a day out in Londinium. We've done most of the big attractions now and are looking for something didfferent to do. We're both history geeks so will welcome anything like that, or museums. Not too expensive either! Thanking you in advance. And...GO!

Museum of London - good for history geeks

Or guided walk around london - they do them on the southbank but also do some really interesting ones around old London, Highgate cemetery et.

The NT property in Hampstead - is it called Willow Road? It's a perfectly preserved modernist house.

Have you done Museum of London?

Churchill's War Rooms?

NoKnownAllergies · 02/05/2012 12:40

The old operating theatre. Excellent, educational and cheap. It's near to London bridge.

HazeltheMcWitch · 02/05/2012 12:43

Ooh, I was going to suggest walking tours as well. There's some fab ones eg Dickens' london, historical pubs etc.

Have you been to the Museum of London?

My friend and her dh did a night time walking tour about Jack the Ripper and said it was FAB!! I want to do it too but need to get a sitter.......

Blu · 02/05/2012 13:33

Get a ticket to sit in the public gallery at the House of Commons, or an hour in the Old Bailey. Go up Monument. Boat to Greenwich where you can visit the Museum at the Observatory, the Maritime Museum and Greenwich Market. Tour of the Olympic site.

Blu · 02/05/2012 13:33

Sorry - Old Bailey and Parliament not good suggestions for a weekend visit!

Blu · 02/05/2012 13:35

Geffreye Museum

Blu · 02/05/2012 13:39

How are you travelling in? It would be a schlepp if coming in by train and then needing to travel out again, but Eltham Palace is stunning and The Red House also menat to be brilliant - I haven't there been yet.

Imperial War Museum is interesting.

MissLofPubia · 02/05/2012 14:27

We're going in by train. Only live in Essex so not too big a journey. Love these ideas! xx

London transport Museum is v good.

Azure · 02/05/2012 14:34

John Soane's museum - fascinating. Foundling museum quite close by (never been). Lunch in Lamb's Conduit Street.

MajorBumsore · 03/05/2012 09:30

Second Imperial War Museum. It is amazing. I leave most museums yawning, but always leave there having very in depth discussions about the subject matter.

jazzandh · 03/05/2012 19:54

Do a duck tour - hilarious!

Nevercan · 04/05/2012 14:22

Ice bar!

CointreauVersial · 05/05/2012 15:30

Go and see the Welcome Collection. Fascinating and free! There is a museum of medical curiosities, with lots of temporary exhibitions; really fascinating.

CointreauVersial · 05/05/2012 15:37

Ahh....just realised it's for this weekend. You are probably already there. Blush Never mind, go to the Wellcome Collection next time.
