Flying with Buggies

We are travelling in June with DD's 3.5 and just 2. Although DD2 is good at walking we intend to take a buggy for any long strolls and the long walks round the airports.

We were planning to use our friends old maclaren buggy, however chatting to a Nursery mum this morning who works for airport security said I should take my Petite Star Zia as it will go through security without having to take her out (although thats not really a problem) and I should be able to take it on the plane with me as it folds up so small?

This is our first time flying with the girls so no idea when it comes to buggys and planes. Anyone any experience as to which would be better?

Ive also heard many horror stories about broken buggies so would the Zia in a carry bag be better?

Zia in travel bag. Carry on as handluggage. Ensure that you have it ready folded up in its travel bag for boarding so the crew and staff see the size of it and allow it on. It should fit in the overhead or ask the crew nicely if they can store it onboard for you. It might even fit underneath the seat infront of you. Not sure about the size of the Zia as I dont own one (am a BJCM girl).

Bringing the zia onboard will save you getting it broken, lost and redelivered on the luggage belt when you really needed it at the gate. Trust me, if you can bring it onboard do it!

Also remember to be polite to the staff and crew and you will find them more than willing to help you. You would be surprised at the things parents come out with and the rudeness cabincrew encounter.....

To go through security you will have to take the child out of the bggy the buggy goes through the x ray machine .

I don't know the Zia but we took our MacLaren various times with us when flying.

It always went on the belt at security and DD had to walk alone. We then had it until we boarded and the buggy was taken into the hold.

It very much depends on your airline and the destination airport where you get your buggy back if it ends up in the hold. Normally we got it at the luggage belt, only once was it waiting for us when we disembarked.

We never had issues that anything got broken.

We've a Petit Star Zia and have flown with it on 8 holidays now (Thomsons), have kept with us up til boarding then it goes in hold. Never encountered any damage.
