I am basically Shock at the prices. I have never, ever been away in August before. ( even my parents used to take us out of school in June Grin) But DS1 is in school so no choice.
I am not fussy about location but would basically like some sun - could cope with a bit of rain but not two weeks worth, and a kids club would be nice. Don't want to share a hotel with 3,000 others and I am not into camping-style places.
Actually now, that I re read that I am pretty fussy!!

I seem to have trawled through a hundred websites and can't find anything for less than 3,000 pounds!!!!!! I even emailed a company last week and got a condescending email back telling me I needed to .... I quote...."seriously revise my budget to at least 6,000 pounds!!"
Who can afford to go away for 2 weeks??? DH and I both consider ourselves relatively well paid but I am not willing to part with a month's salary for our summer hols... before we even leave the UK...

Aaaaarg.... frustration vented...... and now breathe....Wine

It was at this point a few years I discovered and forced myself to like camping.

The prices are bloody awful. Am pricing up holidays myself for July for us because I want a proper holiday this year but am also Shock at the costs.

TBH - even camping in the UK has rocketed in price the past few years - hence my reason to look for something different this year.

I thought there was supposed to be a recession on? Was hoping Greece would be cheap....no go. Then considered Cornwall Shock

DH and I so pleased with ourselves that we finally got good jobs and could take the kids away for a proper family holiday for the first time.... we are saving for a house so we really can't justify flitting away thousands on a holiday Sad

I'm doing caravan in west France one week £700 plus tunnel on tesco vouchers.
Term time.
Week later same hols £950

Outrageous

For £3000 you should be able to find a nice gite with a pool in france. The biggest problem might be trying to find something that isn't already booked for August. The best places normally book before end Jan.
