Accomodation in Norway

We are planning to visit my brother in Stavanger in Norway this summer. We are taking the car so we can travel around a bit before we descend on him. Can anyone suggest places to stay in Kristiansand, Bergen or do you have any suggestions where else would be good to visit?

Oh - forgot to say we are a family of 5, youngest is 6 so no need for really family friendly places although outdoor space would be great. We have considered the tent but I think that it might be a bit cold!
