Flights booked to Malaga end of May - where to stay?

Hi. I hope you can help us. We booked flights thinking that we could stay in a family apartment in Benalmadena, but its been double booked. Argh! So we need to find somewhere else to stay.

'We' is me, DP and 17 month old DS. We originally booked thinking it would be a nice cheap holiday and we were looking forward to playing with DS in the pool during the day and going out for meals with DS in pushchair in the evening and having cocktails on balcony while he was in bed!

Now we're a bit stuck. Would cost £200 to rearrange flights so thinking we might as well book some other accommodation, and there are a lot of places you can get to from Malaga, right?

Torn between finding something as cheap as possible (as we hadn't budgeted for accommodation at all!) and finding something a little off beaten track (which I'm guessing will cost more!)

Ideally we'd like to not pay for car hire as well as accommodation. Any recommendations for areas/villas/hotel complexes etc? It'd be lovely for him not to be in our room, so we can chill out together in the evening (we're TTC no 2 too! Blush).

I know I haven't really given you any parameters at all, but if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know!

We were looking Nerja this year - accommodation was very reasonable and I read some good reviews about the town itself. A lot less built up than most of the Costa.....

We've stayed in Montemar a few times (it sites right between Benalmendena and Torremolinos) - cost less than ?15 in a cab from the airport. Last time we stayed at very cheap and cheerful Albatross apartments. We had a small SC apartment and was fine as we had 15 month old DD with us and I could prepare her food before we went out for dinner in the evening. It is no frill but it also has an OK pool and is right next to the beautiful Montemar beach (which has a childrens play area right near the apartments). there is a spa supermarket right outside. It is no frills but it was clean and functional...and cheap. I think we booked it on travel republic.

Nerja is lovely.. look at www.ownersdirect.co.uk for a two bed apt.. its the week before half term so prices should be ok.

We went to Torremolinos a few years ago , when DS was about 9. We stayed at Las Palomas hotel -a bit old and faded, but we really enjoyed it. It was located five mins walk from beach, 10 mins walk from train station - and just by a bus stop - so no need for a car at all.

It possibly isn't exactlywhat you were looking for - but the general area was nice enough - it is La Carihuela end of Torremolinos.

have you checked out ownersdirect website for apartments? or similar websites. I bet you will be able to get sometihng within your budget especially as it is not yet high summer (although is it the spring bank school hols when you go?)

something like this?

duke748 · 24/04/2012 09:12

Hi all.

Thank so much for your replies. We've ended up booking a 2 bed apartment in Nerja. 10 mins walk to the beach and town and literally bigger than our 2 bed house!

Hopefully we've changed what could have been rubbish into something good. We're excited now!

Thanks again

I love Nerja - we've been there several times, most recently over new year. Hope you enjoy it as much as we have Smile

Yay! Hope you have a lovely time. You must report back on what it is like as it is still on my list!

I got married in Nerja (in the church in the main square). It's a lovely place, buen viaje!
