Use the local buses to get around. They're a bit scary great Grin.

theyve stopped all those old buses unfortunately. I think they were all taken off the road last year :(

Hire a car, the buses have been replaced but not sure if the timetable is any better. Last time we went the same bus went a different route everytine we got on it. They were a nightmare to rely on solely.

Hire a car- I got a deal online and it was less than 10 euro a day! You can get anywhere on the island within 45 min. Didn't spend much time in Valletta, but the shopping is great! You must visit the fishing village (Marshallok?iIn the North for gorgeous fresh fish, Mdina for the Silent City and take the ferry across to Gozo. Malta is covered with stone temples older than Stonehenge, which are fascinating. If you start at the Museum of Archaeology in Valletta you'll be able to plan which temples you'd prefer to do. Golden Sands is the only place with a beach.

Melieha has a beach too, but can get crowded, but its a large gentle shelving beach so perfect for paddling. However if it's just you and dp, Paradise Bay at the top of the island is nice for proper swimming, lot deeper.

Never tried the buses but having a car meant we drove right out to the headlands and discovered some lovely chapels/churches perched in the middle of nowhere, with stunning views. And the Church of St Paul's Shipwrecked in Valletta is a must. Stunning stunning church inside.

The craft village in the middle of the island is worth visiting too, especially for the glass blowing demonstrations.
