We are thinking about booking a break to barcelona in August, we are thinking about going for a week is this too long? Also does anyone have any good hotel recomendations that cater for a family we are 2 adults 2 children and an infant, we want something that is central. Any advice welcome. Thanks

I don't know if it's still there, but heard that the Camper hotel (same company as the shoes) was v family friendly. iirc each room had a separate living area and there was a 24 hour self service snack room..

When we went to barcelona we rented an apartment hotel in the El Barri Gòtic quarter.
We had a 1 bedroom apartment but it meant we could sit and have a drink after our daughter had gone to sleep and it was easier to buy a few bits from the supermarket to have breakfast and lunch then go out for supper every night.

We managed to walk to most places from there but buying a 2 or 3 day ticket for the open top bus is a real investment because it made seeing the city easy as well as being able to hop on and off.

I'm very jealous, I want to go back to barcelona very soon.

Can't recommend any hotels, although an apartment might be worth considering?

There is so much to do in Barcelona a week will fly by!

The zoo is amazing, and has wee golf buggies you can hire. Parks, cable car, beaches, shopping, boat tours Gaudi village. You must must must go and see Font du Majic (sp?) though, and if you can, go to the late performance when it's dark - its amazing! We took ds when he was 3, he was transfixed!

We went with young kids and stayed in Blane's, on the coast. 30 min on direct, regular train to Barcelona.

I couldn't find a cheap enough family hotel and blanes was lovely and very cheap. We went into barca 4 days out of 7, the rest just took kids beach.

Best of both, I felt and cheaper option

PS: I have been to Barcelona in August, and a lot of it is closed.... not the touristy stuff (it is RAMMED with tourists....), but a lot of the "normal" barcelona. Was also BAKING HOT, so you might want to think about air conditioning.......!
