Going for 5 days in mid-July with ds. Would like somewhere near a good metro line for getting around and clean and comfortable. Everywhere I like seems to be ?250/night, which is about ?100/night more than I'd like to pay.

Plan to visit Louvre, Musee d'Orsay etc.

I'm on my mobile and can't link properly - but the hôtel Canal Saint-Martin is excellent and very good value:

You can walk down the canal into central Paris in about 30 mins. We always walk everywhere in Paris.

Le Chat Noir in Pigale/Monmatre is also very good - slightly more expensive, very near the Moulin Rouge in a happening area:

Thanks for the links. I'm pleased that there are some affordable options.

Stayed recently in 'Hotel Londres Tour Eiffel' which was lovely, small, family owned. Rooms are small but comfortable. Walking distance from Eiffel Tower and Musee D'Orsay. Some great restaurants nearby and lovely staff. About 10 minutes walk to a metro at Ecole Militaire. We got rooms for about £100 a night, but this was in february, so assume prices will be higher now.
