hi,
I have to meet 2 friends for a long coffee in central london. We'll take our 3 babies with us (10, 9 and 6 months). Any idea where we could go?
It can be pricey (it's a special day) but shouldn't be too noisy or crowded.
thank you for your help

does location matter? how are you getting there?

Giraffe is very nice for all ages of children, and indeed adults. There are several branches, Kensington, near the Festival Hall, etc. Depends on what time you go I guess as to whether it is busy.

I disagree about Giraffe. It is very child friendly, but always very crowded and noisy. If you want somewhere more quiet I would just go for any local cafe. There are loads of nice ones on Marylebone High Street - Valerie Patisserie etc.

If you are a member of the Tate go the members room at the Tate modern, it is wonderful. You can join for about £80 which include admittance for some guests not sure how many.

I agree about giraffe, always very noisy...probably child friendly but not baby friendly.
tate modern is a good suggestion, one of my friends is a member.
it would be a tuesday afternoon.... everybody walking+stoller.. covent garden would be a good area.

other suggestions?
thanks to everybody

I always like the Royal Parks, good for strollers and walking and crying babies. Hyde Park, I think there is a restaurant on the Serpentine. Or my fave Greenwich Park - The Pavilion at the top of the park with an outdoor seating area if not too cold (near the royal observatory), or Regatta Cafe at the bottom of the park (next to the National Maritime Museum).

I think the foyer in the RFH is quite good because there is so much space. There will be an exhibition from kids books, too.

Fortnums Soda Fountain?

Nice places in any of teh department stores/ (they usually have good changing facilities, etc)

What about Harrods? Or Selfridges? Both have many different cafe choices within them and are pretty baby friendly from what I remember. There is enough going on with people walking past to keep the little ones amused in watching. They both have toy departments too if you need some diversion after. Harrods is just a short walk from Hyde Park too - with a playground nearby with baby swings.

Is it going to cold? If not-Princess Diana Memorial Gardens-lovely drinks and food and the play stuff is good for babies.

Might be crowded tho-isn't it half term next week?

Tate is loverly too.

how about the cafe at Peter Jones in Sloane Sq; it has fantastic views and whenever I go always got a few babies in arms/buggies and lots of high chairs. It does get busy at weekends though.
