What car to hire - 4 adults + 1 car seat

Hi....can anyone help advise me about hire cars?

There will be four adults travelling and we will need an additional car seat to accomodate our 2 year old.

The cars all seem to be classified by number of seats but this doesnt take into account the fact that a car seat takes up more room (you couldnt fit four adults and a car seat into my Honda Civic for eg).

Do I specifically need to search on MPV's or will any normal 'large' sized cars accomodate us all?

if you put the child's carseat in the middle seat, then there is a little more room towards each door in the back for the adults involved. just saying.

and from your OP i presume you realise that anything described as '4 seater' may potentially only have 4 seatbelts, with no seat in the middle in the back.

don't know much about cars though, sorry...

PS we hired a car a few years ago, and were quoted a specific model when we booked it, however, when we got there we were given an 'equivalent' car, ie we were told we'd get a toyota yaris (i think), but were actually given a peugeot 107 (with only 4 seats...)

We had a Berlingo on holiday for 4 adults and car seat, comfy enough.
