Sicily anyone?

Been reading about it as a possible holiday- but many villas etc online look a bit below standard overall. Looked at Owners Direct and their villas looked quite down market , or far too expensive.

Can anyone recommend locations and any companies offering nice villas?

Have visited but always stayed on hotels

East coast:

Taormina - very touristy but picturesque. Has a Greek theatre from which you can see Etna (it's the iconic shot that you see in all Sicily brochures)
Catania - busy city below Etna - has an airport
Letojanni - a bit run down but being 'gentrified' by a makeover of the promenade when I was last there 3 years ago
Messina - busy port city - hilly
Syracuse - nice town with archaelogical park i.e. museum, Greek and Roman theatres, harbour
Etna - worth a visit but cold up there even when the sun is shining

North Coast
Trip out to the Aeolian islands such as Lipardi and to watch Stromboli errupting is worth doing
Cefalu is a gorgeous seaside town
Palermo - busy, noisy - wouldn't want to take children around this city.

I'd stick to looking in the north of the island, the south is stunning too but the autostrade really only covers the north and east. Think Sicily's villas used to be very good, although we havent used them for a few years. Cefalu is lovely, Taormina is very touristy. I love Palermo but it is very hot and busy. Baghieria and Porticello are lovely too.

You could try Citalia or James' Villas too.

My sister recommended www.holidaylettings.co.uk too.
