Restaurant in or near the Strand

DH and I are off to the theatre this week and would likek to have a nice lunch while we are there. Does anyone have any recommendations? We'd like to book somewhere or we'll just end up wondering around for hours before getting a takeaway sarnie!

There are loads of places but my favourite place is Gordons Wine bar on Villiers Street, just before you get to Embankment Tube Station, down the side of Charing Cross Station.

Its been there for ever, you would never find it without someone telling you about it and it feels decrepidly glamorous! The food and wine are fab and you can sit down in the arches in candlelight and feel wonderful. Embankment Gardens are next door for when you need daylight again. Dh and I were students in London and discovered this place together but before we started going out. We had our engagement party there! Its also the only place I have ever been to on my own for a drink.
