We are very fortunate that for one reason or another we have a :ealthy budget for this summer's holiday of up to 4 or 5k. There are three of us, we like sports, chilling, a bit of luxury, spa, nice scenery. Would prefer self catering to a hotel as we like more space but ideally within a resort. Would like two weeks in August. Where could we go?

Not self catering but Mark Warner could work and may be just about doable on your budget.

Yorkshiremother79 · 31/03/2012 16:22

Gosh I was assuming that was quite a lot of money but for August it sounds like it's not if MW would be a push? Never been away in August before so I'm clueless!

You could get 2 weeks for 5k. Remember you wouldn't need money for meals and you do get a lot of sports and childcare included. I learnt to waterski and sail.
I haven't been but heard good things of the Forte Village in Sardinia and Sani Village in Halikidi, (spelt wrong) Greece.
It may even be cheaper to go long haul in the summer. St Lucia is lovely.

We've been to Sani. It was quite good. Probably better for very young kids imho.
Yes I was wondering about whether going long haul would make more sense. Think it would be a push to get somewhere swanky for that budget for three though and we don't want to compromise on that!

Looking seriously at a particular villa but have posted elsewhere to ask about payments as they are asking for a deposit transferred directly to their bank account. Would rather pay credit card!

Periyali Villas through Simpson Holidays was an excellent holiday for our family - but again, probably better for younger kids

Definitely Mark Warner if you have one child (as we do). Lots of activities, great childcare and good food. We went to Greece (Lakitira I think). Hot, but a really good holiday.

Sorry, forgot to say...always seems to be last minute availability so worth booking late and the your budget should not be a problem :)

My friends-family of 3 -8 yr old boy went to the Maldives last August on similar budget and really enjoyed themselves, said there was a surprising amomnt of families.
