Hi would love some experiences please! We are thinking of booking a week in July with the dc's who will be 2.5yrs and 10mths its the only time DH could go with work etc. We've taken just dc1 before and know the resort but just not in the summer.
Have you taken two small kiddies to the med in July? Goof idea or terrible idea?

I'll watch for replies as we're off to Majorca in May with DD, who will be 16 months!

what's worrying you? its going to be hot and you will need lots of sunoil and beach umbrellas and you could sleep during the hottest part of the day in the apartment. but lots of people living in the med have young children....so its not exactly a major problem.

givemeaclue · 30/03/2012 09:57

sorry don't understand why you think it could be crackers to take kids to the med - yes it will be hot in July - is that what you are concerned about? Just make sure you have air con, take factor 50, keep kids topped up with bottled water (not mineral), buy sun protection suits/keep t shirts on and don't leave them exposed to sun all day or at the hottest part of day - all the same things you would do here if hot. Go and have a lovely time!

...and try to avoid the school holiday weeks in July - more expensive and much busier. and if you can get somewhere with some kids activities (play ground, kids pool - even better if heated kids pool as even in sunshine can be cold, great beach, possible kids club (to cool off inside) - so much the better!

I have took my ds to Greece in July when he was 7 months old and very year since. It's not a major problem the heat just remember umbrellas, long sleeves tops, sunscreen and be prepare to buy gallons of water in fact I always take a re filliable bottle. I have never had any problems sure you'll have a great time.

Beanbagz · 30/03/2012 10:10

No you're not crackers. Kids cope.

Just make sure you keep them out of the sun in the hottest part of the day and make sure they have suncream and hats on all the time. Ensure they have plenty to drink.

We took DD to France when she was 18 months old and it was a very unseasonally hot 40ºC. She coped fine and has on every hot holiday since as has DS.

Cuba's going to be a very chilly 31ºC for me next week Wink

Thank you so much everyone DH really had reservations about them coping in the heat in particular but your responses have helped to convince him that it's not going to be a nightmare :) I'll defiantly take a water bottle for them that's a great suggestion thank you everyone :)

We go to Mallorca every year in July and have 4 dc, have been going since youngest was 6 months old.
It does get hot but as the children are up early we go to the beach/pool early in the morning before it gets too hot (and too busy!) and go back down late afternoon. We always take a pop up sun tent and as Mama1980 said, buy umbrella for beach and take UV suits and UV sun hats.
We always go back to the villa for lunch then little ones have a sleep and we put dvd on for older 2 and keep them out of the sun for hottest part of day (and we get 5 mins to read a book Smile)
You can buy nappies and wipes in the supermarkets out there as well. Dodot nappies are the same as pampers and we have used them for all ours with no problems. Just take enough nappies for a few days and it saves a lot of weight in your luggage!
Hope you have a brilliant holiday, Mallorca is great for families!

Oops! Posted twice, I should learn not to post on mumsnet with toddler on my lap Grin

mummy2l · 31/03/2012 20:05

Thanks lillyfc that's really helpful info :) didn't think of taking a dvd but that's a great idea for the middle of the day. We went and booked today even though DH still not 100% sure as he thinks OT will be really stressful but I'm sure he'll come round by July ;)

Don't worry, it will be fine. Children cope with heat far better than we think and they do have babies living in Mallorca Wink

I took my DD to Turkey to live when she was just 8 weeks old and we spent 3 summers there. It is a lot hotter in Turkey than Mallorca.

Book it and have a great holiday, it's lovely to see the little ones playing on the beach and splashing in the water.
