My 3 year old sone loves collecting shells and beach combing in general. Can any of you lovelies recommend some shell filled destinations/resorts where we could go for our hollibobs this year?

Shell Island, Wales

There's a camp site there, toilets/shower block and lots of space to camp. Is also a pub that does meals (never eaten in there) and a shop. The Island is cut off by the tide so you do have to plan if you want to do day trips off to the mainland. Is very popular and gets busy, is quite basic so not really for 'new' campers.

The beach is gorgeous, it's heaven on earth. Have to say, have only been when it's been quiet though. Lots of shells, safe for a 3 year old and the most stunning scenery on the drive there (from NW England at any rate)

Oh and if you don't want to camp there but be in the general area, Harlech is round the corner or there's Barmouth just down the coast - that's full of static caravans and friends stayed on a really nice site, spotlessly clean, I can ask for the details if you're interested.

As a child we always used to go to Guernsey which is filled with lots and lots of beaches perfect for crabbing, rockpooling and collecting shells. We always used to go on short boat trips to Herm island which I remember has a beach actually called Shell Beach where the sand is made up of teeny tiny shells - magical for us as children.
Somewhere on Guernsey there is a tiny church which is covered in shells from top to bottom - quite a sight to behold and possibly great inspiration for your 3yo.

my top pick would be Naples, Florida. on the gulf of mexico. most amazing sand and shell combo ever if you can cope with the americans. if you cant, go to thailand!

I was going to suggest Sanibel Island, Florida. But it's not short haul!
