Taba, South Sinai/Red sea Area of Egypt???????

I'm wondering if anyone has been & can give any advice please???

We've been to Dahab in the past & absolutely love it & generally love the South Sinai Area & the Red Sea, so want to go back this year, but looking at a new resort, the position of Taba looks good, because its close to Jordan & Israel & I fancy a trip out to Petra & maybe even Jerusalem too.

But looking at the hotels, trip advisor etc, I'm going a bit cross eyed trying to work out which is the best area to stay - keep getting Taba & Taba Heights coming up, but seems they are not close to each other, Nuweibia(sp) seems to be a local town close to Taba - is that right?? - looking on satalite pictures, it all looks pretty barren, but then so does Dahab - which wasn't confused]

Basically, we want AI, near to or on a good beach, the sea bed not dropping off too quickly & not too rocky close to actual the beach, well parts at least, to make for safer Lion fish free swimming/paddling for DD - though we are happy to have it nearby as we all love snorkling & DH loves to Dive.

We would also like to be walking distance from a local town, so as not to be tied to the hotel, though have come to realise AI in a sprawling hotel complex works well with DCs, but we aren't too keen on purpose built resort, but can live with this if it has more going for it - IYSWIM - trips out etc we can organise ourselves.

Has anyone stayed in this area, which is best Taba, Taba Heights, or somewhere else ??

TIA :)
