Mauritius, Maldives or Seychelles?

Can anyone tell me the differences between these three places as a holiday destination?

Personal opinions / experiences of any of them?

Am trying to work out which might suit us best.

Been to the first two. Maldives are amazing for diving and the beach. You can get spots where you'll feel like there is noone else on the island. Mauritius is ok for diving, not nearly as good but cheaper. Quite a few activities to choose from - watersports, botanical gardens, horse riding in national park, colonial heritage stuff, golf. Dreaming of going to Seychelles!

We've been to Mauritius a couple of times as we live 1 island over. When are you thinking of going?

SilentBoob · 14/03/2012 04:07

We're looking at late July / August.

2 weeks with a 6yr, a 4yr and a 6 month old.

We live in the ME and want to escape a couple of weeks of the heat and Ramadan. Geographically these three are fairly near.

August in Mauritius can be very windy. It depends very much where on the used you go but we've been twice at that time if year and neither was particularly great weather!

Seychelles is amazing, stunning, snorkelling off the beach, etc, but v v expensive to do anything. Am off to Maldives on Sunday so can report back.. Haven't been to Mauritius.

We went to The Maldives for our honeymoon. It was amazing and I would highly recommend it. It is expensive though.

Have you thought of doing Dubai and then the Seychelles ? Only 4 hours from Dubai, direct, get good food/shopping/culture (Indian and Middle Eastern in Dubai) and then take in genuine natural beauty in the Seychelles, hire a car and drive across the island, see this link for the places we've been to in the Seychelles from Dubai,

Even South Mahe is gorgeous and you don't have to spend alot on going to the other islands, fave restaurant is Anse Soleil near the 4 Seasons, it's on the link. Have a fab time !

have been to first two. Loved loved loved Maldives - try luxury and isolation, although of course feels quite weird as on the islands you are simply in a resort and no "real" life going on. So in a way preferred Mauritius as you are in a normal operating environment (although a v beautiful one and fab beaches and food) - but kids are going to school, people going to work etc so it doesnt feel quite so sanitised. Loved both. Maldives great if you want to do nothing. More to do (if you are that way inclined) in Mauritius.

suebfg · 06/05/2012 21:53

Not Mauritius - there isn't much to do outside of luxury hotels and the underwater sealife isn't that great.

suebfg · 06/05/2012 21:53

PS we went to July in Mauritius and it was like an English summer - very mixed weather.

What a lovely choice, haven't been to Mauritius or Maldives yet but do know the Seychelles quite well, have been many times since living in Dubai, you'll get some really honest views here:

I know though that the Seychelles over Maldives would win hands down for lush, green, tropical beauty, it really is verdant and is easy to get to the other islands, even the public bits of beach are magnificent, I'm guessing you'll be resort bound in the Maldives, people do that as a 3 day break from here. Hope this helps, if you find my post helpul I'd be grateful if you liked it on fb as I don't earn anything from it, just an information site, thanks Moni Dubai.

I've only been to Mauritius (twice) so can't comment on which but weather wise we went in aug and dec. both were amazingly hot and sunny. Hotter in dec but no rain in the 5wk we visted. Does it depend on region in? As always rain at airport when land! We're due to go back in dec with 3 yr ds and 10mth dd... Xx
