Has anyone been? Polish colleague rambles on talks about Poland a lot: the beautiful cities, the countryside, the forests, the beaches (!) and having seen the price of flights to Krakow on Easyjet I'm quite tempted to go.

What is it like? Suitable for a holiday with a 5 year old & 4 year old? What is there to do there?

I went about 10 years ago, so I imagine things will have changed a lot since then, also I was single, meeting a friend who was teaching English over there and no children so I can't really advise on that aspect.
All that aside, I really enjoyed it. Just such a change from over here. My overwhelming feeling was that it was like England in the early 80s - new building designs, decor, even background music. Great value for money, friendly people and lovely scenery though. Enjoyed the cities most as I don't remember much being in place for tourists otherwise. Did not like catching the train and Warsaw train station in particular - lots of aggressive gypsy beggars (and thefts I believe) so I felt v nervous - and also didn't enjoy the food much, but I'm vegetarian so I imagine theres more choice for meat eaters!

We spent a week in Zakopane in the Tatra mountains close to Kracow. It was stunning and loads to do - cable cars, funiculars, horse drawn carriage to Morskie Oko lake, the Salt Mines aree incredible. Kracow itself is very pretty.
