South of France in July - need a heated swimming pool?

We're thinking of renting a villa in Provence this July (can't go in August as DH will be glued to the Olympics) and I'm wondering if we will need a heated swimming pool. As far as I can see very few villas/gites have heated pools and I wonder if it will be so hot we won't need one. Thing is, a couple of years we went to Eurocamp in the Dordogne and, despite reasonably hot days, the pools were freezing as unheated. Our kids were the only ones who could stay in for long periods but only because we'd packed wet suits! Anyone any experience/advice?

Provence can be seriously hot in July. You probably don't need heating in the pool, but having a pool with a summer cover over at nightime (the blue bubblewrap type) will make a big difference to the pool temperature.

I go the Menorca every summer and I've never needed a heated pool in any villa I've stayed in. I don't actually know of any that have heated pools tbh.

I think the larger, communal pools (like at a Eurocamp) are often colder, perhaps the water takes longer to get warm under the sun as there is more of it Confused, but a villa sized pool will be lovely unheated, not hot, but not too cold either.

I stayed in Provence one summer , seriously hot and pool was filled with water draining off hillside water was freezing but once the initial shock had gone, lovely!

Never! You'll need ice cubes to put in the pool Grin

Thanks all for your replies! We've booked a villa which we have the option of having heated (at extra cost of course) but it's looking like we won't need it. Roll on July is all I can say Smile
