how close to passport expiry date can I travel?

I know there is information out there somewhere, but I can't find it so I'm asking you

My UK passport expires in May and I want to travel in April. Does it need to have a certain amount of time left on it or is it just as long as it covers the length of stay?

I'll be travelling to turkey if that makes a difference.

? Passports should be valid at least 90 days longer than the expiry date of the requested visa.
Looks like you need a new passport.

You need to renew your passport.

Entry Requirements - Passport validity

You must hold a valid passport to enter Turkey. Your passport must be valid for a minimum period of six months from the date of entry into Turkey and have at least three months validity from the date you are exiting Turkey.
