Bognor Regis to Weymouth?

Just wondered if anyone can help? My son is working in Bognor Regis and wants to get to Weymouth the cheapest way possible. He's asked me to do a search online as he has no internet access at mo but I'm coming up with nothing, it seems a very tricky route! I think bus may be the cheapest way but I wondered if anyone lives there who may know the easiest and cheapest way of doing this journey? TIA

I've just done a bit of googling. There seem to be no advance (& therefore cheap) tickets on the trains, which is totally ridiculous. The good news is that, if your son has a 16-25 railcard the train is much more faster for only £2 extra (£26.25 if he travels after 10am - to use a railcard you have to travel on a train that is booked to leave after 10am). Journey time is about 3 hours and he will have to change trains (but it doesn't look complicated). The tickets can be bought at the station at this price. Without a railcard the price is nearly £40. A railcard costs £28 but if you travel by train more than twice a year (on journeys like these) you'll get your money back & start making savings. My first railcard paid for itself on the first journey I took!

The alternative is the bus. He can get a bus into Chichester (£1.20 each way or £2 day return) and then catch the National Express bus to Weymouth. The National Express bus leaves from opposite Chichester train station (check this when you book as they may have other pick up points). Booking online is, I think, the way to get NatEx cheap tickets: it's £10.45-ish each way but I just put in a random date to get a price - it may be cheaper on other dates. The biggest problem with the bus is it takes anywhere between 4h30 and 5h so he would have to stay overnight (if he's seeing a friend) as the bus to get him home would leave before he arrived!

HTH :) You're right - it's an awful place to travel from/to!

If you want to see where I got these, I took train prices from here, bus options from here and then googled the bus services to get the fares.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do that. It does seem a rather difficult journey but your information has been very helpful. I'll pass it on! Smile
