Perfect Portugal?

Ladies, we (me, dh, dd and a couple with a ds) are thinking of Portugal for a week in May. Having looked at the internet, I am now utterly confused about where in Portugal to go.
Where is the best place to go? It would be great to be close to a beach 5-10 mins.

It depends on what you want when you get there. I've had a few fabulous holidays in Monte Gordo which has a fantastic beach, isn't as built up as, say, Albufeira, and isn't too far from the airport.

Hopefully we will have a pool, but being near a beach would be great. It would be great to be near shops and amenities, but not anywhere too hectic.
Monte Gordo sounds interesting; I'll have a look.
