Not until next April but really want o do someting special though not massively expensive so thought it might be best to plan ahead.
Did absolutely nothing for my 40th as had just had DS1 (so not complaining) .
Would like to do go somewhere beautiful, lively, interesting so all the capital cities are an option but which one or where, what else. No spa's please!
Will probably be just DP and me but feel I would miss my DS's age 10 and 5 so any suggestions that could include them would be fab.
Thanks in advance.

I visited Rome and Cape Town with my children and both places were amazing.
Barcelona and Dubrovnik were also lovely.

Had my 50th a few months ago and DH and I were very lucky to be able to leave DC with their Grandad and spend a few days in Rome. Was one of the best holidays of my life. Was the first time I'd been and it is such a wonderful city and absolutely perfect for sightseeing.

In April the weather should be pleasantly warm, but wouldn't go around Easter as apparently the Vatican area is overrun with pilgrims.

Any of the spanish cities would be lovely. Madrid or Barcelona maybe?

I went to Monte Carlo for my 40th and went here for dinner with friends. Very memorable.

Venice?

Another vote for Italy, how about Venice or Florence?

OliviaMumsnet - it is one of the most fantastic destinations we have been to. What made it even more spesh was our English friends who moved to the states 14 years ago were on their jollies on another island whilst we were there Grin so we took a little plane ride over to see them for a couple of days.
