It's my DH's 50th next year (Feb) and I am planning a long weekend break for the both of us (Ds will stay at grandparents). I'm happy to push the boat out cost wise, thinking Europe (short flight). He's not really into culture/heritage as such, would probably prefer a boozy/fine dining type of break. He knows Europe quite well and I have gathered that Amsterdam, Prague and the whole of Germany are not an option (!)

Any suggestions? Thanks :)

Oporto port tasting or krakow vodka tasting ?

Does he like port? Porto is an amazing city - good food, wine and port!

Lol - great minds think alike!

Ooh that's a good idea thanks. He does like port yes, also a big real ale/beer lover. I'd take him to the Oktoberfest if it was viable. I'm trying to do it as a surprise as well. Will lead him to think we're just going out for a meal with family etc then spring the surprise.

I'm trying to wrack my brains for the name of a place/area/region (?) he's mentioned he'd like to go to again. He used to drive coaches all over Europe so is quite familiar with some non- touristy places as well. I'll have to try and dig without giving the game away, he'd guess in a second.

Thanks

If you're not set on going abroad and like mooching about in the countryside, I would recommend Gidleigh Park in Dartmoor for a great fine dining break. We went last year in February for my 40th, and went for some lovely walks (if a little soggy on one day, in particular) followed by the most amazing food in the evenings. It was a lovely, relaxing weekend.
