Canaries in May - suggestions please

My partner, me and our two year old would like to go on holiday in May to anywhere in the Canary Islands.......

Preferably self-catering (not essential)
Would prefer a smaller complex, (don't like the big hotel style places) but must have a pool
Does not need to be near the beach
Not too built up, and with a Traditional feel to the place
With things to do nearby

Any suggestions please............

We go playa blanca in lanzarote , we stay on a complex called las brisas. It is 2/3 bedroom bungalows with a lovely warm pool ,restaurant and a shop . It is really close to the promanade with lovely places to eat and very nice shops a lovely safe child friendly environment ......we have been going for 8 years and have an 8 year old and a 3 year old and they think its there 2nd home ! It is run By wimpen if you google search you can see pictures , you can book direct or there are a few for rent on owners direct we have booked both ways as it doesnt really matter as all bungalows are pretty mych the same , if you would like any more info please ask .............

a word of warning. we went to Corralejo in Fuerteventura last May. We went on the 18th for two weeks. The weather was awful most of the time we were there. We really expected it to be lovely and hot at that time of year. Every day was really overcast and the pool and sea were freezing. We even had rain on two of the days. We were really disappointed and would NEVER go there again at that time of year. However in 2000 we went to Gran Canaria at the same time of year and had a glorious fortnight, so maybe we were just unlucky!

We went to caleta de fuste in fuerteventura about the same time as you Pearshape, and the weather was absolutely scorching.
Not a drop of rain the whole week we were there and TBH the heat was so intense we struggled to cope, (much hotter than predicted) Had temperatures of 35 degrees.

We all ended up sunburned, despite plastering the suncream on and i was feeling really ill from the heat by the end of the week, so much so i couldn't wait to get home.!

I'm used to hot temperatures but the heat there was something else

Mind you we did visit Corralejo and it was quite cloudy that day.
