Where to stay in Algarve with young children

We're hoping to go on holiday to the Algarve this year as Ryanair fly to Faro from our local airport. We have 3 DC aged 6, 4 and 2. I've read good things about Alvor and Villamoura but I haven't a clue really as to where to start in relation to finding a nice hotel/apartment - I would love a recommendation for somewhere - tried and tested so to speak! The one thing that is very important is a good children's pool, small and shallow. I would be most grateful for any advice.

TIA

I've just been reading the reviews on Toca do Mocho and it sounds fab! Might be the answer!

Pine cliffs /Sheraton would be perfect for you

I've spent most of the day googling the Algarve and where to stay. Alvor sounds really nice.

Renaldo, I'll have a look at Pine cliffs, thanks.

Alvor is really lovely. Praia de Rocha isn't tooooo bad as long as it's out of season and you stay outside the main town. We're hoping to go to Porches this year.

stayed at Vila Gale Ampalius Vilamoura a few years ago with two small children, really enjoyed it and the pool was perfect for them.

The Martinhal resort looks good for familes - you can stay in the hotel there or one of various houses/villas in the grounds. Lots of pools, restaurants and right next to the beach. Great reviews on Trip Advisor too.

Alvor is very nice. We stayed in Lagos and that is lovely too.

We have stayed at grande real Santa eulila in albufeira about 4 times. Twice in the hotel and twice in an apartment. Both lovely. Definitely was 5star. Not cheap but worth it. A short bus ride away to albufeira if you want it but not too close !! Really nice beach, 2 larger pools and a few smaller pools dotted around.

Friends have stayed at Martinhal and really enjoyed it. So much in fact are going back soon.

Another vote for either the Sheraton or Grande Real Sante Eulalia. There are often deals on voyage prive or Secret Escapes for the latter. Actually I think it is on one of those sights right now.

I know several people who have stayed at Martinhal but found it to be just to windy on that party of the coast.
We stayed at villa vita parc and loved it.
