Sardinia or Sicily?

Hi - am really wanting to go to Italy but cannot find what I am looking for there I don't think! Have come across some lovely all-inclusive places in Sardinia and Sicily but we have 2 weeks and we were keen to explore cities too.....
Would love to know if anyone had any favourite places - we have children (7), (5) and (3), we went to Siblu in France last year which we loved but had bad weather, think we were just unlucky really. Keen to try Hotel rather than Caravan.

Hi! I'm completely biased as my parents are from Sicily (and I've never been to Sardinia) but it's just stunning! There's loads to see, especially the ancient ruins, they're fascinating. The only things I'd say against it is that it gets very, very hot in the summer and driving can be a bit hairy.

Have you tried Lake Garda? You can get to Venice, Verona, Milan and Florence quite easily. If you can wait and get a last minute deal, Thomsonlakes (it's separate from Thomson) really half all their prices.

Grin I am biased the other way as my DH is from Sardinia!

It's beautiful but their standards of hotel/holiday accommodation are NOT in any way what I would have expected for the prices they demand. We have stayed in some lovely resorts but so expensive compared to other places.

It's child friendly but not necessary in the way you might expect, mealtimes are late and there are no special menus. I love the food but you have to get used to things like whole fish staring up at you Grin This is true in other parts of Italy too though.

You will need to speak some Italian even in most resorts and the levels of service again leave a little to be desired - we went to pick up our hire car to be told none came over on the ferry, only Fiat 500s available. We were 4 adults with 2 weeks worth of luggage!!!! It just wasn't their problem and there was nothing we could do about it Hmm

I realise that this sounds very negative but if you can over these things it is truly stunning and the sea is just amazing. I have a slight ulterior motive to keep people away but in all honesty it's great as long as your expectations are right. :)
