Starting to think about where to go next year and felt like a change -we've been to Puerto Pollensa in Majorca lots of times and it's great for children, has anyone been to Puert Andratx in Majorca? it looks nice too but don't want to waste a holiday if it's not as nice/good for children.

hi tasa, i worked in majorca for 4 years as rep and had to go to puerto andratx every wednesday on coach trip.
its very beautiful, and quite chic, very old and popular with germans.
but its nothing at all like puerto pollenca, in the resort itself is no beach but surrounding resorts do have beaches (small ones.
i have two children and to be honest its not a resort i would choose for them.
have you thought about trying the east coast?
if you want any more info let me know
i know more about majorca than i do my hometown!

puerto cristo is a lovely, little port/resort on the east coast, its very small and from what i can remember does have its own beach- a very small one, and the whole of the surrounding area has loads of tiny little beaches.
its very traditionally mallorquin with little tapas bars and is not really a tourist area as in sprawling hotels and apartments blocks, it does have a lot of daytrippers to it though from people on coach trips visiting the "caves of drach" (underground caves, beautiful and really magical) which are close to the resort- a must see if you do go.
id definetly take my kids there, mainly because its really well placed on the island if you want to go off sightseeing (car hire etc) and because the east coast has hundreds of tiny beaches which are perfect for little ones. there is not much to do of an evening, nightlife itself tends to be more resturant based - but with a child your not really going to get much chance to go clubbing anyway!
just a few miles from porto cristo is "reserva africana" which is a safari park with giraffes, elephants and antelopes and you can go round on an open top jeep.
porto cristo is just about 5 miles from the resort of cala millor which has alovely bog beach, shops bars and resturants so even if porto cristo is too quite for you , theres plenty to do just a short taxi ride away
hope this helps!!

Thanks tiredemma - you've sold it. I want to go now.

I was wondering what a bog beach was!

tasa
we have a place there,
its not really geared for small children. allthe cafes along the front could be a hazard as they are on the harbour edge. you would be constantly on watch. there is no seaside as such and i think it is mostly orientated towards older couples or the "young and trendy", however the reataurants are so accomodating, we had our dd there this year, aged, 7mths, and no where was a problem. we wont be there next year with her as i'd be wrecked running around after her.

on the west san telmo is the nearest beach but its a drive away, or peguera on the east.
but who wants to have to move every day...?

we went and PIL are there now
v pricey but nice for a chang
very expensive and a bit of a stop off for people with huge yachts
Pils are actually there now - they have a friedn with a flat there
i would only ever take ds there if we hired a car and it was reasonably warm
