National Army Museum...any good?

Just been googling what to do in london for the under-6s and this place keeps coming up.

There's a play centre there, for which you have to pay.

Trying to keep costs down so is it worth it?

Also, how far from the Natural History Museum is it?

It's a brilliant place - and it was all free when we were last there (used to haunt the place when DCs were little!). As well as the Kids Zone (does that really have a fee now?) there are hands on things in the main galleries, and there are activities during (London) half terms and about every 6th weekend.

It's not close to the museums on Exhibition Road. I'd get a bus up Sloane Street to Knightsbridge, and change there to anything going west along the Brompton Road (about 3 or 4 stops to the museums?). Perhaps a current London MNetter will know if there's a direct bus.

Sounds great Edith but a bit complicated re getting from museums to it.

Me and a friend are planning to take 3 toddlers so it needs to be very very straightforward!!

District or Circle line from the museums in South Kensington to Sloane Square (one stop!) then a walk to the National Army Museum.

As Edith says, its a great museum and very interesting ...

I forgot about the Tube Blush

NAM is also next to the Royal Hospital, which has a museum I always meant to go to, but never go round to.

I wish I could forget the tube Edith!

OP: It's also an "easy" tube journey with little ones, as the lines there are shallow, so not too many steps etc.

Its such a good museum. All free. A lot is told from the POV of ordinary soldiers and their experience which is excellent ... Good cake as well if I recall.

Went there this week and it was fab. Get there early to get a ticket for the soft play centre (tickets are timed as you only get an hour to play). You can also eat your own sandwiches in their cafe.
