met office site says 18-20 during the day. but last year it said that and it felt a lot warmer. Anyone living or holidaying in the canaries - whats the weather like at the moment and what sort of clothes are you wearing during the day/at night? Are we talking shorts/swimming costumes during the day and trousers fleece's at night? we don't have many cases, so no room for error!!

I've been many times in January and February. It's usually pleasantly warm and sunny during the day but chilly after dark, and it gets dark early. If you are unlucky you can have rain or cloudy days when it's cooler.
I take the usual swim/beach wear for day time but for evenings something warmer than you might take for a summer holiday (trousers, long sleeve tops, a jacket or cardi and shoes rather than sandals).
You will find the pools and sea are only for the brave.

I got back from Lanzarote 3 days ago.It was 19 during the day and cold at night. There was a strong wind which made it seem colder too on some days.Think Spring clothes;I had to wear long sleeves morning and night but could sit round a pool/on the beach in a bikini during the day.Don't make my mistake and take a skimpy nightie..had to sleep in the bathrobe!Agree with secretsquirrel re. the pools & sea..I was in a 4 star hotel and the pool was still only 20-24!There seemed to be no-one in the pools in the other 4/5*hotels too.

thanks skoda - sounds like it was colder than last time. we have a heated pool so hopefully that should be ok.

Yes I forgot about the fact that there is usually no heating and in particular no carpet so the floors in the room are cold.
Don't be put off though, it is lovely to have some warm sunshine in February but many people are unrealistic about the climate in winter. The first time I went I had packed as if I was going to Greece in summer and I had to buy a fleece.

Right now, it's pretty chilly. The temperature has dropped, so trousers and long sleeves are a must, even during daytime. Think more or less 15º C. But till last week it was a lot warmer, and hopefully this cold won't last
