Please do not be offended but if you are in a wheelchair how do you go to the toilet in a plane?

I hope this won't offend but

when I was watching LOST last week Locke is carried on to the plane because his wheelchair can't go on

IIRC cos the special chairs that are used were not acvailable

Anyway when the plane crashed his legs worked again

But anyway they carried him onto the plane and sat him down

so what about if he wanted to go to the toilet

do they carry him to the toilet or is there a special chair that can go down the gangway?

.

It's called a bottle RTKM. My uncle is a double amputee and it's one of the things he finds most humiliating about going on holiday (he is originally from Tunisia so travels back there to see family 3-4 times a year.

RTKangaMummy · 22/01/2006 13:58

So you mean like if you are bed bound in hospital ?

My dad just doesn't go. And has been all the way to AUstrailia.

RTKangaMummy · 22/01/2006 14:11

Crumbs

Surely there must be some way of making it easier

IMHO making the toilets bigger would help

take out some of the seats and increase the size of the cubicle

It's the dangers of getting to the toilet rather than the layout of the toilet for my dad. They do have special chairs on the plane, but they can be veruy dangerous, if not used by experienced people, and it is just safer to not drink anything and therefore not need to use them.

Prufrock · 22/01/2006 14:40

Yes like bed bound.

RTKangaMummy · 22/01/2006 15:02

Thank you for answering me

I was worried it might have been insensitive or offensive question

It isn't the kind of thing you can ask someone in RL iyswim

I knew this question would have been prompted by Lost - as we wondered exactly the same thing.

SecondhandRose · 22/01/2006 15:11

We should have a thread with all those embarrassing questions we're all to afraid to ask. I'd like to know how do gay men know (when they're out of the pull) who is a giver and who is the taker IYKWIM! For instance he picks up a man, they get home and they are both takers, then what?

SecondhandRose · 22/01/2006 15:11

Sorry that should have said 'out on the pull'.

Highlander · 22/01/2006 15:54

they have a narrow chair on wheels that the attendant wheels you into the bog with.

RTKangaMummy · 22/01/2006 16:39

That sounds good idea with the wheels

I could ask about the gay question to my friends

I know there was something about having something in pocket like a scarf or handkerchief
