Ibiza or Mallorca? Have you been, where would you recommend?

Which would you say is better for a family beach holiday? (we used to like independent travelling to smaller charming places, but with kids in tow happy to go for something a bit more resort-y but not towerblock hotels on beach!).

Majorca - p pollenca? or Cala d'Or? Or somewhere else? pollensa looks like it has a road running the whole way along the beach - is that right? Or does it feel a bit secluded from the road anyway? So thought the cala style beaches might be nice, but do they get absolutely heaving peak season?

Ibiza, reassure me we can find some clubber free family beaches where I can be white and wobbly! Where is good? Portinatx, es cana? Is st Eulalia a bit built up, with road behind the beach?

Your top tips gratefully received!

Been to Majorca twice with kids, both times was lovely.First holiday stayed near Campos inland in the SE then drove to nearby beaches each day eg Es Trenc which is amazing. They are in the same region as Cala D'Or but did not actually go there.Last year went to Puerto Pollensa. This has everything you need for a family beach holiday.Beach has a promenade behind it for most of it, in the Pinewalk area at one end there are just a few cafes, on the main bit there are more shops & hotels behind the beach and then maybe a tiny bit of road at the far end.But the whole thing is maybe 2 km long so the road part is insignificant. It is a resort but has an upmarket feel..hardly any English breakfast cafes etc, more cappuccinos and parasols.not done Ibiza with kids but have stayed near Talamanca beach which is wide, sandy and not very clubber-orientated and would happily take kids there. There are bound to be better ones though.

Been to Puerto Pollenca twice - once April, other time October (half terms) - and it has been lvoely. We have done flights separately and then got apartments from Villa Parade. Last time (last April) we staye don the Pinewalk - it is a footpath, not road there with a the beach right opposite.

When we have been it has been lovely and we have had a great time.

We always get a car to explore the island.

We've been to both Puerta Pollensa and Portinatx, liked them both, on balance I think I prefer Pollensa if I was going to stay in the one place and not go anywhere nearby, simply because there was more going on in the place itself; Portinatx is very hotel-based and as they're mostly all-inclusive places and there are only a few bars/restaurants in the area. Lovely restaurants in Pollensa and a really nice, slightly classy vibe.

Portinatx is very laid back, nice beach, good for swimming (drop a few crumbs of bread into the sea and await the feeding frenzy from the big grey fish that come out of nowhere!) whereas Pollensa's beach is more gently sloping and has longer shallows, if that makes sense?

Pollensa is down the road from Alcudia, which is probably the roughest place I've ever been to in my life (went there to watch a European cup match at DH's insistence, felt v. out of place because I didn't have tattoos on my tits, bought a coke, went to the loo, came back and the coke had already become imbued with the taste of fag-ends...), whereas Portinatx is a bus-ride away from Ibiza Town, which is gorgeous.

So pros and cons to both, tbh!
