doubletree guest suites in New york. we have just got back and they were fab. The rooms are quite big plus you get a living room witha double sofa bed and a bedroom with two double beds, a micro wave and a fridge. They were really plush and we got free breakfast threw in for 2 adults and 2 children. This was a full cooked breakfast buffet, with fruits cereals etc. (you also get a gorgous, warm choc chip cookie on check in). They are right in the middle of time square (same block as virgin megastore). The security is brill. You ahve to show your room key to the security on ground floor, reception is on third floor, and there is then a seperate lift up to the rooms. it has 43 floors and the views are great.
i was a bit worried about the flight because we had heard some bad reports about continental but i ahve to say the only bad thing was the food, but then i dont like plane food anyway. we were on 757 going out and didnt have seatback entertainment, coming back we had 767 and had the seatback stuff. flight crew were great and it was a smoothish flight.

New York is on our wish list, but our budget is more Youth Hostel I think, sounds good though.

great recommendation - how did you book it and, ahem, how much did it cost?

moondog · 21/01/2006 21:28

Hi, we booked it direct over the net on www.doubletree.com i think it cost about £900.00 for the 4 nights for 5 of us. its part of the hilton chain and just so convenient.

I'll make a note...
How old are your kids btw??

dizzy34 · 22/01/2006 00:04

Hi moondog.
sorry for the brief post before ds2 was sick and choking. i have a ds aged 16yrs and twin dd aged 11yrs. also have ds aged 2.5yrs but he stayed with nanna. he has severe disabilities and is quadriplegic and wouldnt have benefited from sitting in pushchair for 8hrs a day. Can you tell i feel a bit guilty about leaving him? we normally take him everywhere.
the weather was fab, the thurs, fri and sat were really warm and for part the day we only had t shirt and fleece on. we were so warm in the shops that my hair was wet!! sun, mon got v v cold and it snowed for our visit to central park. we skated at rockerfella centre, stroked the lucky 'bull' in the financial area, drank coffee at a coffee house in greenwich village,we saw the naked cowboy and considering that he was 'naked' on the coldest day he was a very 'proud' man. went to the empire state building twice cos the first time had zero visability but the kids wanted to go up anyway. we also went to the intrepid mueseum and it was so good. a real aircraft carrier to go on, complete with upper and lower decks full of fighter planes and also concorde. we got the newyork pass which meant that we could visit all the attractions as many times as we wanted for the one price. one tip that i wish we had known was that you have to book 24hrs in advance to go 'up' the statue of liberty. The kids were dissapointed as we did this on our last day.The days were so full and we were completely knackered when we got home but i love new york. it was our second time and i still enjoyed the sites as much
