My bf and I are trying to hire a big house for a long weekend with friends for our 30th birthdays

  • Needs to be big enough for 12-14 adults + a couple of kids
  • Needs to be central (ish) England
  • needs to work out at £100 ish a head
  • would be ovely if it was quite posh!!! (snob, moi??)

Any ideas/ recommendations?

Go here and use the availability search function for your party size, dates etc.

If it's a school hol period though you can't book a weekend more than 28 days ahead in most of them (some do).

The poshest ones have codes which are mostly letters ( they are English Country Cottages)

This one is sooooper but a) in Wilts and b) very booked up.

The Big Domain is the best site for this, has a good search and links to all the individual websites too.

Thanks, love the one in Wilts, but is not free. We need it for a weekend in May. I know we have left itquite late to book, but hard to get commitment earlier (Too many friends trying to get pg!)

melrose · 19/01/2006 15:35

12th/13th/14th May or 19th/20th/21st May or 2nd/3rd/4th June (just checking when everyone is free)

Middle weekend suits most people though

And when you say central-ish England do you mean "Heart of England" (Peaks, Stratford etc) or a bit further south?

JanH · 19/01/2006 15:40

This one's available - not v exciting but nice. (Too far NW?)

We live in Nottingham, most people will come from there with a couple coming from London so ideally want something that is no more than 2 hours drive as a few cannot have Friday afternoon off work. So pretty much rules out the west country but cotswold / Glos OK, really anything NOrth of M4 I guess?
