Further to my thread about best places in Cornwall, is the half term 2 June there too?

Any advice/comments about coming OUT of Cornwall the weekend starting half term- will we miss mad traffic travelling into Cornwall- or we could stay over somewhere and come back mid week.

try googling 'school holiday dates in Cornwall', you'll be able to tell all the dates a year in advance.

yep thought of that- just thought a MNs might have it at her finger tips!

This year the half term is the same country wide because of the Queens Jubilee - date was moved by Act of Parliament a couple of years ago! Monday 4th June is a public holiday and Tuesday 5th is also a public holiday as it is the Queen's birthday (street parties anyone!). i would think a lot of folks would come down on the Friday and go back on the Tuesday. However most caravans and cottages will only do you a full week because it is a school hol. what about staying Friday to Friday? I would certainly avoid going too far down west as the Cornwall show is on Thursday to Sunday and we once made the mistake were trying to drive back this way on the Saturday down the A30 and it was a nightmare. Avoid the A30 altogether by staying in SE Cornwall down the A38 - Looe, Polperro and Fowey are all lovely.

This site gives term and half term dates across UK and in Australia. It's essentially a collection of links to authoritative sites (like LA ones) and thus saves you time/effort by taking you straight there.

Always useful ahead of february half-term, which seems to be the most often out of step, and in checking the differences between the home nations.

Thanks mm I didn't realise there were bank hols then- be good for DH as he works and I am s/e.

I will take your advice and avoid the A30.

Where is the Cornwall show?

Half term in June isn't strictly speaking, the same across the country this year or any other year.

Most schools will have the first week of June off (inlcuding the 2 bank holidays 4th and 5th). Where I live we have 2 weeks off in June (the first and second week.)

This means my DS only gets 5 weeks in the summer and will finish a week later than most chools who have 6 weeks.

Independant schools can also have different holidays. My freinds DS has the second week in June, as well 4th and 5th bank holidays.

Amelia, just looked at the website and it is Thursday 7th - Sat 9th so in half term it is at Wade bridge. have been once and it was vast a really good day except couldnt remember where i had parked the car. Agree with Lucy independent schools are always different but the majority of kids are in state education and will therefore be off for at least the first week of June.
