what do you reckon? Seems extortionate to me, as we want a fortnight's summer holiday, and could go abroad for that price. But it looks fabulous there, and I do love Cornwall. But then if weather shite, a lot of money! Can't decide - any thoughts?

For how many of you? Does seem a bit steep but depends on what you are getting - hotel, cottage etc.

minxthemanx · 21/01/2012 10:39

Just the 4 of us, 2 adults 2 children, and that price is for a caravan! (nice caravan, admittedly). tbh even cottage in cornwall in august is £800+, and at least this place has pools etc. Just seems everywhere in August in this country is so expensive.

That sounds about right for August. I always thought nearly £1000 a week. Ridiculous.
That's why we bought a motor home Grin

May half term is cheaper (though this year of course it is in June!) if you can change your dates then definately worth a look. we stay at Wringworthy holiday cottages near Looe and i know they arent that much for 4 of you. They have a swimming pool and lovely animals like donkies as well as a play barn which is great for when it rains. Have a look also at cornwall tourist board site now called visitcornwall the places on here have been inspected so less likely to get a bad un. hope you find something - that does sound a lot for a caravan! Like moomoomies suggestion too - we bought a tent and have had loads of cheap weekends away in it.

How much?!?!
Go to Pembrokeshire - just as pretty and much cheaper and less crowded. Or North Wales.

minxthemanx · 21/01/2012 17:01

Unfortunately we're stuck with July/August for our main holiday, due to work commitments. The last few years we've got ryan air flight, plus apartment on lovely complex in Portugal/Majorca for the same price as 2 weekd in Cornwall. Ridiculous, I agree. I'll look into the North Wales suggestion- problem is we know Cornwall well and love it.

I've stayed there, its nice (although not cheap). but yes, if weather bad you are stuck -but that could happen anywhere! Have you looked at eurocamp etc for france?

OneHandFlapping · 23/01/2012 09:30

I was going to say Pembrokeshire too. Cheaper holiday houses, less crowding, even in August and the most wonderful beaches.

minxthemanx · 23/01/2012 09:34

I'd love Eurocamp, but haven't found much for under £2000 for a fortnight in August, and that's before petrol or flights. Have spotted a lovely campsite near Venice tho, which seems cheaper, am wondering why!

agree pembrokeshire is fab. like cornwall, better accommodation for the money and less people. st brides bay cottages got us a lovely place for about £800

Kewcumber · 23/01/2012 11:01

my mum rents out her caravan on english south coast (selsey) for around £600 a week (from memory) in August (also indoor swimming pools etc) so £80 sounds a lot to me. Maybe its cheaper to rent from an owner than from the holiday park? I can check what website she uses if you like as they might have owners renting direct on there.

givemeaclue · 23/01/2012 11:01

what about getting ferry to france and doing eurocamp brittany? save on flight costs and they usually have offers on ferry. if its going to cost £1900 for 2 weeks at mawgan porth then £2000 for france seems a good deal?

dreamingofsun · 23/01/2012 11:05

brittany for 2 weeks - admittedly in biggest mobile and more expensive crossing - used to cost us £3k for 2 weeks in summer hols. But Brittany is nicer than cornwall and better weather and sites always better.

Kewcumber · 23/01/2012 11:06

there you go... any help?

Thank you so much, what a lot of helpful ideas. Having looked into Eurocamps, I can find 12 days at end of Aug/beg Sept for 1300 which is a bit better. Probably flying, as we live near Stansted and by the time we've driven to ports, ferry etc there's prob not a lot in it. (And DS1 very car sick!)

Minx, having stayed at mawgan porth park it is lovely (and very stylish) but to be honest there is a lot more to do at euro camp for the children plus they get all the fun of being abroad - I don't think I would pay over £900 per week for mawgan porth park. the euro camp option sounds better (suggest mobile home not tent!)

have a great time!
